What towns are made of
Every business website we audit carries the OpenStreetMap tag for what the business actually is — a pub, a guest house, a dentist. That turns the corpus into a picture of what each place's high street is made of, and lets us ask whether the mix predicts the quality.
Read the mix only inside a comparable universe. Leads were collected by targeted
queries — one per county, per trade. Oxfordshire looks like 31% pubs across the whole corpus
because a pub crawl ran there, not because Oxfordshire is unusual. Only two groups were collected
with an identical query everywhere, so only those two can be compared between places:
accommodation and eating & drinking. Pick All trades and the
composition charts switch off; the quality metrics still work, because those never depended on
the sampling.
